Jace credits usually run out early for one reason: auto-drafts. Every email that lands in a label with Auto-draft email replies turned on gets a draft, and each draft uses credits. The built-in Needs Reply label has auto-drafts on by default, so a busy inbox, or several inboxes sharing one plan, can use a month of credits in days. The fixes below are all in Settings and take a few minutes.
What uses credits
Credits pay for the AI work Jace does for you. Each of these uses some:
- auto-drafts that a label creates for incoming email
- drafts you ask for while reading a thread
- chatting with Jace
- workflows that run on a label, such as filing an attachment or updating a CRM
- thread summaries
There is no fixed price per email. The cost follows how much text the AI has to read and write, so a short reply uses fewer credits than a draft on a long thread with attachments. Sorting incoming email into labels does not create a credit charge on its own. The charge comes when a label then drafts a reply or runs a workflow.
How many credits each plan includes
Plus includes 10,000 credits per user each month. Pro starts at 20,000 per user and has larger tiers up to 2,400,000, listed on the pricing page. On a team, every seat adds its plan's credits to one pool that the whole team shares. Every inbox you connect under your own login shares your allowance too, so connecting a second busy inbox roughly doubles the auto-drafts you pay for.
When credits reset
Monthly credits reset at the start of each billing period, and unused credits don't roll over. On yearly billing you pay once a year and your credits still refill every month. During the 7-day free trial you work from trial credits, and the monthly allowance starts when the paid plan begins. Reward credits, such as the ones you earn by inviting friends, never expire and are used only after your monthly credits are gone.
You can see the numbers in Settings → Billing & Usage (open in app): credits remaining out of your plan total, reward credits and total remaining.
What happens at zero
Auto-drafts and chat pause until your credits refill at the start of the next monthly period. Jace never charges you automatically for going over, and there are no top-ups to buy. To keep going before the reset, an admin can move to a larger plan or credit tier with Upgrade in Billing & Usage.
Five settings that cut credit use
1. Turn off auto-drafts on labels that don't need them. Open Settings → Labels, pick a label and switch off Auto-draft email replies. Keep it on for the label that holds real conversations and off for anything you prefer to answer by hand.
2. Only draft when you're in the To field. Settings → Advanced → Autodraft only when directly addressed skips emails where you're only in CC or BCC. In inboxes that get copied on a lot of threads this removes many drafts at once. The setting is per inbox, so switch into each connected inbox and check it there.
3. Exclude noisy senders. In the label's settings, add addresses under Email(s) to exclude. Use it for newsletters, automated systems or a colleague who copies you on everything.
4. Tighten the label description. The description tells Jace which emails belong in the label. Add plain exclusions such as "not cold sales pitches or their follow-ups" or "not automated notifications". Fewer emails in an auto-draft label means fewer drafts.
5. Use free filters for archive-only rules. If a workflow only archives or files a type of email and never replies, a Gmail filter or an Outlook rule does the same job without using credits.
Questions people ask
Why do I have 0 credits right after renewing? The renewal and the credit reset are two separate steps a short time apart. Refresh Billing & Usage a little later. If the balance still shows 0 after an hour, write to support@jace.ai.
Do Jace drafts I delete still count? Yes. The credits are used when the draft is written, whether or not you send it.
Can I buy extra credits for one month? No. Plans have fixed monthly tiers. Pick a larger tier, or add seats on a team to grow the shared pool.
